Vintage-inspired Melaya Dress

When I read over my last post, I realised I’d lied about not making any whole costumes recently!

For WAMED a few weeks ago, a few of us performed Na’ilah and Nanda’s choreography of “Leyla”, which was another vintage-inspired piece, this time with the melaya.

I don’t yet have any closeups of this dress, but here’s an action shot, taken by the amazing Ruza!

Vintage Style Black and Silver Bedlah

For WAMED this year a group of us performed a Golden Age inspired piece to Hobak Ala Feyn, choreographed by Na’ilah and Nanda. To go with the theme, we made vintage-inspired costumes to really fit the part.

Burgundy Neo-Victorian/Steampunk costume

frontThis was another SF convention costume, this time for the Wastelands steampunk-themed convention. I was involved in a “What is Steampunk?” panel, and since I hadn’t done much preparation, I decided that staying up the night before making a new costume was better use of my time than actually researching!

Chocolate Velvet Dress

This dress started out its life thinking it was going to become a dress for belly dance, but once I’d pieced it together and done the beaded trim, it was starting to look decidedly more Medieval-inspired. When Book Week came around at work I decided to add an underdress, a cord and coin belt and voila! Morgan le Fae – ish!
